Macintosh Help for TablEdit Files

Tim Piazza

For TablEdit downloads, Mac OS 9.x truncates the filename to 31 characters, cutting off the extension on the longer filenames. You may need to add the .tef extension, if it is missing from your download, before attempting to open the file in TablEdit (TablEdit won't recognize the file without the .tef extension).

If you try to open the file by double-clicking it, rather than going to the "File>Open" menu, the file without the .tef extension will open Textedit, displaying raw code.

The TablEdit Macintosh File Fixer adds .tef to the end of any file or group of files dropped on it. his little program does one thing - it adds .tef to the end of any file or group of files dropped on it. Why is this a big deal? If you use TablEdit on a Mac, the "Open" window only recognizes TablEdit files with the .tef extension. Since older MacOS operating systems and software only support 31 character names, some of the TablEdit files from the co-mando.com library get cut short and you can't open them until you add the extension. This utility will restore the .tef extension to any names that are 28 characters or longer.

To use it, unstuff the utility and then drag your TablEdit files onto the icon. You can do one TablEdit file at a time or the contents of an entire folder.
